The 49th Regular UEFA Congress has commenced at Belgrade’s Sava Center, with the President of the Football Association of Serbia (FSS), Dragan Dzajic, declaring the UEFA Congress a historic event for the FSS, Belgrade, and Serbia.
"Welcome to the country of European and world champions in 2013 and 2015, the country of the European vice-champions in 1968, the club champion of Europe and the world in 1991, as well as the European vice-champion in 1966. It is a great pleasure to welcome you on behalf of the FSS and personally, and to wish you all the best at this historic event for our city and our Association," Dzajic stated in his welcoming speech.
He emphasized that the UEFA Congress is not only an opportunity to advance strategies and make decisions but also to reaffirm cooperation between associations, clubs, and national teams.
"This sport is a bridge that connects all cultures and nations worldwide and is built on trust, love, and enjoyment. I am confident that the decisions made at this Congress will further enhance the future of football, making it fairer, more exciting, and more engaging for both those on the field and the fans," Dzajic added.
He also expressed his gratitude to UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin for entrusting Belgrade, Serbia, and the FSS with hosting the Congress.
Serbia’s Acting Prime Minister, Milos Vucevic, stated at the Congress’s opening that it is a great honor and privilege for the country to be the proud host of such a prestigious gathering, which brings together the most prominent representatives of European football.
This marks the 49th Regular UEFA Congress and the first time it is being held in Belgrade. The event gathers the presidents and general secretaries of all 55 UEFA member associations.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stated that he believes much can be achieved by the end of the year for Serbia to advance further along its European path.
