The exercise, titled "NATO-Serbia", involves around 600 members of the Serbian Armed Forces and the armed forces of Italy, Romania, and Turkey, along with military planners and observers from the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Romania, the United States, Serbia, Turkey, France, and Montenegro.

The exercise is led by Colonel Branislav Stevanovic, Deputy Commander of the Third Land Army Brigade. Conducted at the tactical level, the exercise will run until May 23 and provides members of the Serbian Armed Forces and NATO member states’ armed forces, with an opportunity to exchange operational experience and best practices.

During the two-week field activities, participants will train in tactics, techniques, and procedures used in peace support operations, including base security, checkpoint operations, crowd control, and urban combat, according to the Ministry of Defence.

The exercise is being carried out on the basis of a decision by the Government of Serbia and represents a continuation of the mutually beneficial, practical, and transparent cooperation between Serbia and NATO within the framework of the Partnership for Peace program, on an equal footing and with full respect for Serbia’s policy of military neutrality.

This cooperation is aimed at preserving peace and stability in the region, improving the operational capabilities of the armed forces, and strengthening trust and mutual understanding.

Participation in international exercises enhances the readiness of Serbian Armed Forces commands and units to carry out a broad range of tasks, including deployment in peacekeeping operations, while at the same time reaffirming Serbia’s commitment to cooperation with all partners and to maintaining peace and stability.
