Greece was the first country announced as advancing to the grand final.

Alongside Greece, the Eurovision finalists are Finland, Belgium, Sweden, Moldova, Israel, Serbia, Croatia, Lithuania, and Poland.

The results were determined by a combined vote of the jury and the public, based on a 50:50 system.

Fifteen countries competed in the first semi-final.

The second group of semi-finalists will perform on Thursday, May 14.

Serbia’s Lavina Performance

Serbia’s representatives, heavy metal band Lavina, delivered a striking audio-visual performance and received an excellent reaction from the audience with their song Beside Me during the first Eurovision semi-final.

Performing last among the 15 contestants, Lavina opened their act in a restrained manner, under dim bluish lights, as vocalist Luka Arandjelovic softly recited the lyrics while moving toward the camera, beckoning it with a claw-shaped glove.

Arandjelovic slowly approached a sword placed on the stage, which turned out to be a microphone stand, while the performance by the band - dressed in a gothic-metal style - was accompanied by striking vertical bluish lines streaming from the floor toward the ceiling.

Lavina erupted during the key moments of the song with Arandjelovic’s signature powerful vocal delivery, while the audience at the Wiener Stadthalle responded with especially thunderous applause when the stage design suddenly shifted, glowing red amid numerous columns of flames.

“Scream for me, Europe!” Arandjelovic shouted in English at the end of the performance, which earned roaring applause.
