A session of the United Nations Security Council was held in New York, during which the semi-annual report of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the work of UNMIK for the period from September of the previous year to March of this year was reviewed.
The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Caroline Ziadeh, stated that the organization supports the dialogue on the normalization of relations and called for restraint from unilateral actions and for constructive problem-solving.
She noted that during her visit to northern Kosovo and Metohija at the end of March this year, interlocutors pointed to a persistent lack of trust between institutions and expressed concern for the future in light of developments in the region.
The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated in Podgorica that she and the new special representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Peter Sorensen, are discussing the mistakes made in the ongoing dialogue, as well as what worked and what didn’t
In his address, Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric emphasized that international principles must be applied equally and consistently.
He stressed that Serbia’s position remains clear and consistent — it strongly supports the continued presence and full engagement of UNMIK.
Djuric pointed out that more than 25 years later, the mission’s mandate has yet to be fulfilled, while the challenges on the ground are becoming increasingly complex by the day.
He further stated that due to unilateral actions and ethnically motivated incidents committed by the current ruling regime in Pristina, led by Albin Kurti, the situation on the ground in Kosovo and Metohija is deteriorating, with the Serbian population bearing the cost.
Kosovo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Donika Gervalla, called for the abolition of UNMIK and accused the mission of distorting facts related to the progress made by the authorities in Pristina.
Gervalla stated that UNMIK is losing credibility every day as a UN agency because the mission’s conduct fails to reflect the actual developments in Kosovo.
