Students participating in the blockade in Belgrade have announced on social media that they are demanding snap parliamentary elections, stating that their demands have not been met.
"With a firm belief that our demands are justified, we note that the roots of government corruption have penetrated state institutions too deeply, thereby preventing them from performing their duties independently," the students said in a statement.
In this context, they are calling for the immediate dissolution of the National Assembly and the scheduling of snap parliamentary elections in accordance with Article 109 of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia.
"We believe that democracy is the only legitimate way to resolve a political crisis of this magnitude. Therefore, we call on the public to support the list in which students in blockade from all higher education institutions across Serbia will place their trust," the statement reads.
To recall, the demand for accountability following the collapse of the roof canopy at the Railway Station in Novi Sad triggered the largest student uprising to date – mass protests and faculty blockades throughout the country.
