European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated in the European Parliament that the European Union remains committed to supporting Serbia on its path to membership, but emphasized that Belgrade must implement key reforms, which students and citizens have been demanding for the past months.
Referring to her recent visit to Belgrade, where she met with political leaders, civil society organizations, and students, Kos said she delivered a consistent message: that the time for EU enlargement is now and that this is a historic opportunity. However, she added, the EU expects concrete results from Serbia in the fight against corruption, ensuring the rule of law, judicial independence, media freedom, and electoral reforms that will restore citizens’ trust in the system.
