The Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, stated that according to data from Eurostat, Serbia, together with Cyprus, was the fastest-growing economy in Europe in the first quarter of this year.
"It is fascinating how much attention people here, including many investors, pay to Serbia, how much they know about Serbia, and how much confidence they have in Serbia. Once again, one of the main topics here is the fact that, according to Eurostat data, among all the countries for which they currently have data for the first quarter of 2026, Serbia and Cyprus are the fastest-growing economies in Europe in the first quarter of this year", Brnabic said in Prague, where she participated in the panel "The Role of Southeastern Europe in Global Systemic Transformation" as part of the GLOBSEC 2026.
She added that this was a major success attributable to the policies of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic.
"Despite all the protests and attempts to stop Serbia, to block Serbia, to drive away tourists, to discourage investors, and to push away those investors who are coming, thanks once again to the courageous and visionary policies of Aleksandar Vucic, we succeeded in becoming leaders in European economic growth in the first quarter", Brnabic said.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, speaking about the calling of snap parliamentary elections, told Radio Television of Serbia that they would be held sometime between September and November.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos assessed that the adoption of four electoral laws in the Serbian Parliament represents an important step toward free and fair elections, and announced continued cooperation with the authorities on the remaining reforms.
She also noted that Serbia is developing technologically and innovatively, which means that it is "a serious player, that the European Union must take much more seriously".
"Since a large part of GLOBSEC is dedicated to innovation, there has been discussion about the fact that Serbia has already acquired its second supercomputer and has a state-owned data center, of a kind that only Poland has elsewhere in Europe. This demonstrates a clear direction for Serbia’s future development and shows that Serbia is, in that sense, a serious player that the European Union must, if it is practical and pragmatic, take much more seriously", Brnabic stated.
"We Expect Stronger and More Vocal Czech Support for Serbia’s European Integration"
The Speaker of the Serbian Parliament, Ana Brnabic, said in Prague following a meeting with Czech parliamentary leader Tomio Okamura that Belgrade expects stronger and more vocal support from the Czech Republic for Serbia and its European integration process.
She added that the future of EU enlargement was one of the main topics at the GLOBSEC 2026.
Brnabic expressed satisfaction that she had the opportunity to meet again with Okamura in less than a month, emphasizing that he is "a great friend of Serbia".
