"The state will do everything to ensure that energy security and the supply of oil are not jeopardized, despite the fact that NIS has been placed on the initial U.S. sanctions list," the minister said.
Djedovic Handanovic emphasized that negotiations regarding the sanctions are ongoing between the U.S. and the Russian Federation but added that Serbia will continue its own negotiations to have NIS removed from the sanctions list.
"We will primarily continue striving to prevent those sanctions from being imposed. If it is not immediately possible to remove the sanctions, then we will seek an extension, so that NIS can continue to procure crude oil," the minister explained.
The U.S. administration announced in mid-December last year that it would impose sanctions on NIS due to Russian ownership. The sanctions have since been postponed three times.
