Members of the academic community, students, and citizens have blocked the intersection in front of the Serbian Government building, where a protest titled "Universities at a Crossroads" is taking place.
A delegation from the initiative Rebel University submitted their demands to the Government of Serbia, stating that these issues concern society as a whole, not just the academic community.
The organizers highlighted three main demands:
1. The disbanding of the Working Group for drafting a new Law on Higher Education and the initiation of a public and inclusive discussion on the matter;
2. The annulment of unlawful amendments to the Regulation on University Work Standards and the remediation of their consequences;
3. The adoption of budget quotas for university admissions by the end of June at the latest.
According to the latest global report by the World Bank, Serbia has ranked second in Europe and sixth worldwide in terms of progress in digital transformation, following South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Estonia, Brazil, and Australia.
