Grenell: Shame on Vjosa Osmani for Manipulating Donald Trump’s Words
Donald Trump was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on peace between Kosovo and Serbia and for economic normalization in 2019 and 2020. Vjosa Osmani was not part of that agreement, wrote Richard Grenell, the U.S. Presidential Envoy for Special Missions, on X (formerly Twitter).
The special envoy of former U.S. President Donald Trump rejected the interpretation by the President of Kosovo's institutions, in which she accused Serbia of allegedly preparing a recent conflict between Belgrade and Pristina.
“Shame on Vjosa Osmani for manipulating President Donald Trump's words,” Grenell wrote.
“Donald Trump was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on peace between Kosovo and Serbia and the economic normalization of 2019 and 2020 — through the signing of the Washington Agreement in the Oval Office during the Trump administration. Osmani was not part of that agreement. Pretending that something new is happening is absurd,” Grenell added.
Grenell's reaction came in response to Osmani's statement on July 10 in Washington, where she claimed that President Trump, in his statement, clearly referred to “the last few weeks,” and that he was not talking about old events, but about “very recent developments.”
U.S. President's Special Envoy for Kosovo, Richard Grenell, says that the statements by the Prime Minister of the provisional Pristina institutions, Albin Kurti, claiming that relations between Washington and Pristina are "stronger than ever," show that he is "mistaken".
Richard Grenell, special envoy for missions under U.S. President Donald Trump, criticized a statement by Glauk Konjufca, a member of the Self-Determination Movement, who previously claimed that the administrations of Joseph Biden and Barack Obama had placed Kosovo in a disadvantageous position.
Although she did not provide further details, Osmani made this claim in the context of a discussion about the role of the U.S. in maintaining stability in the Western Balkans, adding that Trump had done everything in his power to ensure peace in the region.
Despite the criticism, Osmani stated at Johns Hopkins University in Washington that Trump played a key role in preventing an escalation of conflict between Kosovo and Serbia.
“I am very confident that a potential war was prevented thanks to the role of the U.S. and the direct involvement of President Trump,” said Osmani.
Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric responded critically, stating that Osmani is manipulating Trump’s words and making unfounded accusations against Serbia.
“Unfortunately, it seems that manipulation and fabrications are the only way Osmani and Pristina can attract attention in Washington,” said Djuric.
He added that officials in Pristina had rejected Trump’s vision of peace through economic cooperation, while Belgrade still hopes for a regional approach focused on stability and joint development.
