Lucic: New U.S. Administration a Great Opportunity for Telekom Srbija, Goal Is to Develop as Many Startups as Possible
During the administration of Joseph Biden, we had excellent cooperation with the ambassador and laid the groundwork for a strong partnership. The new U.S. administration under Donald Trump is business-oriented and represents a major opportunity for Telekom Srbija, said CEO Vladimir Lučić.
Speaking as a guest on the program Stav dana ("Viewpoint of the Day"), Lucic discussed the results of his visit to New York, cooperation with the United States, roaming with the European Union, artificial intelligence, and Serbia’s digital transformation.
The general director emphasized that he held meetings in New York with major financial institutions.
"The visit was business-oriented, since we are aware that due to budget issues and the government shutdown, the administration is operating in a limited capacity. Nonetheless, I managed to hold meetings with leading financial institutions. Telekom Srbija is the only company in the Western Balkans that has issued corporate bonds. In New York, I sought to develop two projects - cooperation in the field of cybersecurity, and startups and artificial intelligence - since the United States will be the global center for the development of AI and AI-based services," Lucic said, explaining the purpose of his visit.
The recommendations of the European Commission from previous years remain valid, and Serbia has met the criteria for opening Cluster 3 (competitiveness and inclusive growth), which is technically ready to be opened, according to the draft version of the EC’s 2025 Enlargement Policy Report.
The European Union Ambassador to Serbia, Andreas von Beckerath, stated that he firmly believes Serbia’s future lies within the EU and emphasized that he will work tirelessly to support Serbia in implementing all the necessary reforms to make that happen.
He added that Telekom’s goal is to establish as many startups in Serbia as possible.
"Telekom Ready for the EU Roaming-Free Zone"
Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Macut recently announced the possibility of Serbia joining the EU roaming-free zone.
Lučić emphasized that the ultimate goal is for users to be treated as domestic in every country.

"Telekom is ready for the EU roaming-free zone. What was originally set for 2028 is already becoming a reality - users are now receiving a portion of free data. That was a key EU objective. Full integration creates an opportunity for us to be part of the EU as a country," he stated.
"Goal: To Evolve Newsmax Balkans into Newsmax Europe"
Lucic also announced a special event on November 19 dedicated to the expansion of Newsmax Balkans across Europe.
"This is our next big step. Eastern Europe seems easier to enter, and the Newsmax brand is quite attractive. I believe we’ll be proud of what’s coming. From there, we move forward, as the goal is for Newsmax Balkans to grow into Newsmax Europe. Ultimately, everything will be managed from our studio in Belgrade," he said.
