Penarroya Appointed New Head Coach of Partizan, Payne Signs Until End of Season
Spanish coach Joan Penarroya has been appointed the new head coach of Partizan’s basketball team, while American point guard Cameron Payne has also joined the club, the Belgrade-based side announced.
"Penarroya is the new head coach of Partizan. The former Barcelona coach arrived in Belgrade on Monday and will assume the role of head coach of the black-and-whites today," Partizan said in a statement.
The 56-year-old Spanish coach has previously led Barcelona, Baskonia, Valencia, Manresa, Burgos, and Andorra. He succeeds Zeljko Obradovic, who resigned from the position.
"With Burgos, Penarroya won the FIBA Champions League twice (2020 and 2021), as well as the FIBA Intercontinental Cup," the club noted.
According to the latest global report by the World Bank, Serbia has ranked second in Europe and sixth worldwide in terms of progress in digital transformation, following South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Estonia, Brazil, and Australia.
President Aleksandar Vucic stated after a meeting with representatives of the Slovak national minority in Vojvodina, held together with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, that they discussed ways in which the Serbian state can help all communities where Slovaks live.
Alongside Penarroya, Uroš Dragicevic has joined the coaching staff as an assistant. Dragicevic was most recently the director of the Fuenlabrada Academy and previously served as a member of AS Monaco’s coaching staff.
Cameron Payne New Point Guard
American basketball player Cameron Payne has signed a contract through the end of the season, the club announced.
"Payne (31) is the newest addition to Partizan. The American point guard has arrived in Belgrade and has already joined the team’s training sessions," the club said.
The former 14th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft played for the New York Knicks last season. Previously, Payne appeared in the NBA for Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Chicago, Cleveland, and Oklahoma City.

STAV DANA
