Cornerstone Laid for New Serbian Armed Forces Building
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, together with Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic and the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Milan Mojsilovic, laid the cornerstone for the construction of a new facility for the Ministry of Defence at the Banjica barracks in Belgrade.
He stated that the building is expected to be completed within three years, by the end of 2028, and will cover approximately 50,000 square meters.
Vucic emphasized that, in Banjica, near the Military Medical Academy, representative facilities of the Serbian Armed Forces will be built within a proper military and security environment, in line with the importance of the Serbian army.
He noted that the contractor is VGC and that significant funds have been invested in the project. The General Staff, he said, will be relocated from the city center, but this site will be where key decisions regarding the future of the armed forces are made.
The President of the Serbian List, Zlatan Elek, stated that, based on preliminary election results, the party won all 10 mandates reserved for Serbs in the elections for the Assembly in Pristina.
Political tensions in Albania have escalated in recent weeks. Protests against the Albanian government over corruption were held in Tirana, during which demonstrators threw Molotov cocktails at the government building housing Prime Minister Edi Rama’s office.
The President also recalled that the first military airfield was established at this location 115 years ago.
"From the place where Serbia once took to the skies, today we are laying the cornerstone for a new marvel of the modern military," Vucic said, quoting Duke Zivojin Misic: “Life is an eternal struggle; those who know no fear move forward
