"We should expect a significant step forward from the Trump administration and a return to the Washington Agreement. Let’s remember that Trump’s administration worked on it at the time. All of that was dismantled with the arrival of the Biden administration and put on the back burner. In that sense, Trump and his administration will bring the Washington Agreement back to the table, which is very important," Andjelkovic said on the program Synthesis.
According to him, during the Dayton negotiations after the war in Yugoslavia, discussions about Kosovo were also considered.
"Slobodan Milosevic understood that if Kosovo was opened as a Yugoslav issue, it would then be declared independent, as that was essentially the primary intention. Milosevic said at the time: 'If you insist on discussing Kosovo and taking it now, I’ll board a plane to Belgrade.' The Then U.S. Secretary of State Warren Christopher responded: 'Fine, we won’t discuss Kosovo,' but that did not mean they stopped their activities aimed at declaring Kosovo independent," Andjelkovic explained.
Speaking about the period following Slobodan Milosevic’s removal from power, Andjelkovic pointed out that Zoran Djindjic, before his assassination, realized that the narrative of a democratic resolution for Kosovo was merely a facade in the West.
"He understood that the West had no intention of resolving the Kosovo issue in Serbia's favor or in agreement with Serbia," the Newsmax Balkans guest emphasized.
