Speaking at the ceremony marking the Day of the Special Purpose Military Police Detachment "Cobras", Vucic responded to a journalist’s question about whether it is more realistic for mandatory military service to begin in November or March next year, saying that March is the more likely timeframe.

He emphasized that this will not be military service as it once was, lasting 365 days, but rather a shortened period of just 75 days.

He added that particular efforts will be made to encourage the construction of military centers and the renovation of barracks in border regions, from Sombor to Pirot, as well as Priboj and Zajecar.

"We will consider how best to strengthen this, because by doing so we also strengthen those local municipalities and entire regions of Serbia. These people will spend money, they will receive salaries, and they will spend that money in the towns where they are stationed. Their families will visit them, and someone will need to provide food, bread, milk, oil, sugar, salt, eggs, and more. In effect, these towns will gain what is essentially a new factory, and a very important one at that. So these are positive developments", Vucic said.

"The Consequences of the Crisis Are Already Visible"

The President of Serbia also stated that a global economic crisis will be impossible to avoid and assessed that its effects are already being felt.

"I did not want to speak about this in detail, but since you asked, the economic crisis will be unavoidable worldwide. At the global level, I fear it could be one of the most severe, perhaps the worst since the period from 1929 to 1933, and possibly the most difficult in modern history. It is becoming increasingly hard to contain, and the consequences are already visible", Vucic told reporters.

He added that countries are currently relying on buffers and reserves accumulated in the past, rather than on present-day economic realities.

"We will do our best to endure a day, two, three, five, seven, or ten longer than others. But in any case, everything is becoming more difficult, more complex, and more problematic. When such economic crises occur, they lead to major political conflicts. These conflicts result in a breakdown of mutual respect and ultimately give rise to armed conflicts, which erupt with astonishing, or rather unbearable ease and irresponsibility in various parts of the world", Vucic stated.
