"Balkan Cartel" Members Arrested, Including an Official from Novi Sad
Eight individuals suspected of being organizers and members of the organized criminal group known as the Balkan Cartel, involved in international cocaine smuggling, have been arrested in Belgrade, Nis, Novi Sad, and Sremska Mitrovica, according to the Serbian Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime.
Among those arrested is the acting director of the Novi Sad Public Transport Company (JGSP).
Additionally, one Serbian national was apprehended in Ecuador, another individual in Bosnia and Herzegovina, while a third member of the criminal group is serving a prison sentence in Croatia for an unrelated crime.
The arrests were conducted by Serbia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) under the direction of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Directorate and Europol, following months of joint investigations with police forces from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the searches, authorities seized weapons, a large quantity of ammunition, numerous luxury vehicles, high-end watches, and significant amounts of cash.
A manhunt was launched for the organizers of this criminal group. Three members of the cartel were arrested in May 2023 and are currently held in detention by the Special Department of the High Court in Belgrade.
The organized criminal group is suspected of being behind multi-ton shipments of cocaine transported from Ecuador and Brazil to Europe.
