Business Forum in Belgrade: Trade Exchange with Italy Exceeded Five Billion Euros
The political dialogue and respect between Belgrade and Rome are at a much higher level than before, stated Serbian President at the Business Forum "Serbia – Nord Est Italy - Regional Connection of Entrepreneurs," evaluating that Italy has always been there to help Serbia on its European path.
Aleksandar Vucic said that trade exchange with Italy has exceeded five billion euros, that Serbia is the second partner in the Western Balkans, and its goal is for Serbia to surpass Albania in terms of cooperation with Italy.
He mentioned that cooperation needs to be strengthened by attracting Italian investments, using Italian ports, and investing in Italy.
"From 2026, we will focus specifically on the route from Belgrade to Trieste. By then, we will complete all connections from Budapest to Sofia and Istanbul, as well as to Thessaloniki and Piraeus, and then we will work on the Belgrade-Zagreb-Ljubljana-Trieste route," Vucic announced.
He added that investments will be made in road and, above all, railway infrastructure, which will contribute to cooperation.
Vucic also stated that Serbia needs additional knowledge and that discussions are ongoing with the most significant Italian faculties and universities.
Italian ambassador Luka Gori stated that cooperation and political-level discussions have strengthened.
He emphasized that the visit of the Nord Est system to Serbia represents one of many entrepreneurial missions, which is extremely important.
"Because Nord-Est, or North-East, is the heart of Italy’s manufacturing systems and exports. Italy today exports more than 650 billion euros annually, and Nord-Est represents the heart of the economic relationship with Serbia. Many Italian companies present here are directly linked to the North-East. This is important for bilateral relations, which have significantly grown in the last two years," said Gori.
The president of the company Finest, Alessandro Minin, stated that the cooperation between Serbian and Italian companies is crucial and that it can be even better.
"Serbia has always belonged to our community. Serbia must officially become part of the space to which it culturally, economically, and in every other way, belongs," said Minin.
The president of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Marko Cadez, stated that for Serbia, the logistics hub is important because 80% of everything Serbia produces for distant markets passes through the northern Adriatic ports, with the majority coming from just one in Rijeka. It is not ideal to have only one option.
"There are ports in Italy with which we can work very well," said Cadez.
