At the emergency press conference, Vucevic stated that his decision came in response to the attack on students in Novi Sad that occurred overnight.
"I had a lengthy meeting with the President of the Republic, we discussed everything, and he accepted my decision, he accepted my arguments. I believe this demonstrates responsibility, ensuring that such issues do not spill over into the streets, cause public disputes, or further divisions within society. Politicians should take responsibility, at least in this way, and show they are prepared to lead toward de-escalation and bring everyone back to dialogue. It is unacceptable for anyone to attack someone," Vucevic said.
According to him, the Mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Djuric, will also submit his resignation.
"Both the Prime Minister and the Mayor of Novi Sad believe they are objectively responsible for what happened, and as such, they are resigning from their respective positions. Let this contribute to calming the tensions and returning to the paths of political and social dialogue. Serbia undoubtedly needs social dialogue and conversation," Vucevic emphasized.
Students participating in the blockade in Novi Sad reported that they were physically attacked overnight and that one female student sustained serious injuries.
