General Director of Srbijagas optimistic about the US extending the deadline for imposing sanctions on NIS
The General Director of Srbijagas, Dusan Bajatovic, stated that he is optimistic regarding the extension of the deadline for the imposition of US sanctions on NIS, and that it is currently difficult to predict by how long the deadline will be extended—whether by 45 or 90 days.
Bajatovic expects that a solution will be reached, as he put it, "just in the nick of time."
Speaking about possible solutions, he mentioned that one option is to receive an unconditional delay, with a time limit, to complete talks and agreements with Russia.
"Another solution is for NIS to continue operations under certain conditions, and the third option is to allow some form of activities within the Oil Industry of Serbia, with the assumption that they will ask for it to be controlled, meaning that oil processing and the production of oil derivatives will continue in the facilities," Bajatovic said.
The Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS) has submitted an official request to the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for the postponement of sanctions, announced Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic.
President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stated that the United States will impose comprehensive sanctions on the Serbian Oil Industry (NIS) in a few days due to its Russian ownership
He stated that 80% of the derivatives sold in Serbia come from NIS, and 60% of them are in retail, adding that NIS has 12,000 employees, contributes at least 2.5% to the annual budget, and that it would be justified to extend the deadline and make an agreement.
Gosti Stava dana: profesor Slobodan Samardžić I advokat Aleksandar Cvejić.
