The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) of Serbia continues its efforts to combat corruption throughout the country, releasing a statement about the results achieved during February.
According to the MUP, as part of the ongoing anti-corruption campaign, officers from the Ministry, the Anti-Corruption Department of the Criminal Police Administration, following orders from special anti-corruption departments of higher public prosecutors' offices in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kraljevo, and Nis, handled 23 cases in February, leading to the arrest of 153 people.
"Criminal charges were filed against 48 people in the regular procedure for committing a large number of corrupt criminal offenses, causing a total damage amounting to 3,497,175,233 dinars, as well as illicit property gains amounting to 2,536,027,623 dinars," the statement said.
Among the 153 arrested individuals, the statement highlights a large number of officials, directors of public enterprises, representatives of local governments, and directors of health centers.
The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, met in Abu Dhabi with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and on that occasion emphasized that Serbia stands in solidarity with the friendly people of the Emirates in these difficult circumstances.
