Proposal to Discuss Serbia’s Political Situation Rejected by the European Parliament

This decision was made during a meeting of the coordinators of political groups in the European Parliament.

The proposal to include this issue in the discussion was submitted by the liberal and green groups, supported by the Social Democrats and the Left, while the European People's Party (EPP) and far-right groups opposed it.

Previously, MEPs from the EPP, whose affiliated member is the Serbian Progressive Party, refused to sign a letter sent by 33 MEPs to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, expressing concern over her meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic amid the political crisis in Serbia.

In February, when the European Parliament held a debate on Serbia’s political crisis, the EPP group also opposed adopting a resolution following the discussion.
