Patriarch Kirill thanked the president for the decoration, noting that every award brings positive emotions, and that when it is received in the context of the relationship between the two countries, peoples, and churches, it represents more than just a "simple award." Patriarch Kirill stated that the Serbian and Russian peoples are connected by their history, common struggle, and shared faith.
"We have never been at war with each other, we have never betrayed one another. This is a unique case in the entire European context. Even today, although Serbia and Russia are geographically separated and do not share a border, they preserve their spiritual and cultural unity," Kirill said.
Stating that some things can be understood intellectually, Patriarch Kirill emphasized that when it comes to Serbian-Russian relations, they are understood through the heart.
