Pope Leo XIV visited Belgrade last year: Met with Patriarch Porfirije as Cardinal

Cardinal Prevost took part in the plenary assembly of the Council of European Bishops' Conferences (Consiglio delle Conferenze Episcopali d’Europa – CCEE) held in Belgrade under the title "Pilgrims of Hope for a Synodal and Missionary Church", which took place last year on the eve of Vidovdan (St. Vitus Day).

During the gathering, Prevost – like all CCEE members—attended a meeting with the Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Porfirije, and also visited the Church of Saint Sava, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced at the time.

At the time Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, Cardinal Prevost gave a presentation on the topic "The Dimension of Evangelization and the Church’s Mission in Europe", in which he reflected on the European elections and global crises, including the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
