The Director of the Belgrade Tourist Organization, Miodrag Popovic, stated that the interest of American tourists in Belgrade is steadily increasing.
"The interest of American tourists in Belgrade has been continuously and steadily growing over the past several years, boosted by promotional activities that include various segments of our offer – including the so-called ‘running tourism,’ where our presence at the marathons in New York and Chicago, along with the presentation of the Belgrade Marathon, has significantly increased our visibility," Popovic.
He added that culture, gastronomy, nature, and nightlife are major parts of the appeal and motivation for American tourists to visit Serbia, but also emphasized the large number of Americans of Serbian descent – second, third, and even fourth generation.
"Digital nomads, conference participants, and young Americans who travel across Europe during the summer also make up a significant group, especially considering that Belgrade's visibility and positive image in promotional terms have made interest in visiting one of Europe’s oldest cities truly significant. Of course, we must mention our sports ambassadors who compete in various sports across the U.S.," said Popovic.
According to him, Americans most often visit Belgrade, but they are traditionally interested in touring culturally and historically significant sites across Europe, as well as attending summer festivals such as Exit, Guca, and Nisville.
"Direct flights to New York, Chicago, and hopefully soon to Miami as well, certainly represent a comparative advantage over other cities and countries – not only in the region," Popovic noted.
He called on everyone, especially those of Serbian and regional descent, to come to Belgrade to learn more about their roots.
"And then, all Americans – known for their curious and adventurous spirit – because Serbia is truly a destination for them. Of course, when we talk about Belgrade, there’s also a strong similarity in mentality, since an American journalist, after his first visit to our city, described Belgrade as ‘a low-budget New York,’” emphasized the director of the Belgrade Tourist Organization.
