A former member of the KLA arrested in Svilajnac, accused of war crimes
In a joint action of the Security and Information Agency, the Service for the Detection of War Crimes, the Directorate of Criminal Police in Serbia, in cooperation with the War Crimes Prosecution, Ljulzim Haljilji was arrested in Svilajnac.
Haljilji (59), who was born in Pec, was arrested on suspicion of committing crimes against humanity and war crimes on the territory of Kosovo.
Haljilji is a former prominent member of the Kosovo Liberation Army, which operated in the area of Pec, Pristina and Djakovica, including an attack on the Yugoslav Army post at Košare.
In consultation with the Prosecutor's Office for War Crimes, the suspect was detained for up to 48 hours, and afterwards he will be brought to the competent prosecutor's office with a criminal complaint.
The 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre is being commemorated at the Potocari Memorial Center. More than 6,700 victims have been buried at the center, and at least 1,200 people are still missing.
The Basic Court in Pristina has issued arrest warrants for 20 Serbs for alleged war crimes. They are suspected of killing 106 Albanian civilians and mistreating another 300 in Djakovica. The Ministry of Justice of Serbia has strongly condemned this decision.
