In the statement published on the Ministry for European Integration website on Wednesday, it was noted that the Multiannual Operational Programme for Environment and Energy will be managed by Serbian institutions under an indirect management system, in accordance with how EU member states implement EU cohesion and regional development programs.
It was noted that this represents another form of support to Serbia in its EU accession process.
Serbia’s National IPA Coordinator, State Secretary at the Ministry for European Integration Mira Radenovic Bojic, stated that the agreement provides significant financial support for improving environmental protection and further energy development.
"In this way, we have secured support for sustainable waste management, improvement of wastewater treatment infrastructure, and promotion of energy efficiency measures in public buildings and households," said Radenovic Bojic.
In addition to infrastructure reconstruction or construction, the program will support the development of strategic documents and plans to align with EU standards.
"We will invest in strengthening the capacities of local and national institutions and in the development of technical documentation. Finally, the program will enable better cooperation with relevant national and international stakeholders, including civil society organizations and the private sector, to ensure integrated implementation and advancement of sustainable development policy," stated Radenovic Bojic.
Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Andreas von Beckerath said that this agreement is another example of the European Union’s strong and lasting commitment to support Serbia on its path to the EU.
"Environmental protection and sustainable energy are not only at the heart of the European Green Deal but are also essential for improving the quality of life for all citizens. Through this significant investment, in synergy with the new Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, our goal is to accelerate Serbia’s alignment with EU standards and help deliver tangible benefits for citizens and the environment. Our shared future depends on this green and just transition, and we look forward to walking this path together," said von Beckerath.
