Serbian Police Part of International Operation: 4.8 Tons of Cocaine Seized, Serb and Member of Balkan Cartel Arrested

According to the Ministry’s statement, the inspection and search of the vessel GALEXYR uncovered 4,841 kilograms of cocaine, packed into 153 bales.

Onboard were 11 individuals, mostly nationals of Croatia and Montenegro, as well as V. Dj. (41), a citizen of the Republic of Serbia, who has been detained and remains in custody.

The GALEXYR is a tugboat specialized for cement transport, 76 meters in length, and its inspection lasted several days.

The vessel’s interception was coordinated by the MAOC-N (Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre – Narcotics) and the French Navy, while the Serbian team highlighted excellent cooperation with the Croatian police and Europol during the investigation.

“V. Dj. is a member of the Balkan Cartel’and the actual owner of the company VTS-Maritime Consulting DOO, engaged in recruiting seafarers for transoceanic vessels. He himself is a seafarer, holding licenses to operate various types of vessels. There is suspicion that this cocaine seizure is connected to the recent triple homicide in Bolivia of Balkan Cartel members, nationals of Serbia, North Macedonia, and Croatia,” the statement said.

It was added that the operation was successfully carried out thanks to excellent interagency, regional, and international coordination and cooperation in the fight against organized crime.
