Ministry of the Interior: 47,500 Citizens Welcome Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija; 2,600 Supporters Back Dijana Hrka
The Ministry of the Interior announced that 47,500 citizens gathered in front of the National Assembly of Serbia to welcome the group of Serbs walking from Kosovo and Metohija to Novi Sad.
"The public gathering was duly registered with the competent police department, which allowed the police to plan all security measures in advance. The gathering is proceeding peacefully, without any disturbance of public order and peace, without incidents, and without injuries," the Ministry stated.
At the same time, according to the Ministry, another public gathering took place at the corner of Takovska Street and King Aleksandar Boulevard, where citizens assembled to support Dijana Hrka. It is estimated that around 2,600 people were present.
The recommendations of the European Commission from previous years remain valid, and Serbia has met the criteria for opening Cluster 3 (competitiveness and inclusive growth), which is technically ready to be opened, according to the draft version of the EC’s 2025 Enlargement Policy Report.
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali visited the construction site of the National Stadium, part of the EXPO project. Vucic stated that the stadium will be completed by the end of February 2027 and ready for football matches by September 2027.
"The Ministry of the Interior appeals to all citizens to express their views peacefully and in accordance with the law, and reminds that timely registration of public gatherings is a prerequisite for their safe organization," the statement said.
Traffic at the corner of Takovska Street and King Aleksandar Boulevard has been blocked, as citizens gathered to support Dijana Hrka - the mother of Stefan, who died when a canopy collapsed at the Novi Sad Railway Station.
Hrka has been on a hunger strike since Sunday. Meanwhile, in front of the National Assembly of Serbia, the Serbs who had walked from Kosovo and Metohija were welcomed.

STAV DANA (R)
