Vucic: We Are Not Selling the Site of the General Staff Building, We Are Leasing It for 99 Years
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic stated that the site of the General Staff Building is not being sold but will instead be leased for 99 years. He added that the investment in that location will amount to at least 650 million euros.
He said that the former government had sold the land for the U.S. Embassy, where the Marshalate once stood - also damaged during the 1999 NATO aggression - and noted that the embassy plot is larger than the one where the General Staff Building is located.
"Unlike them, who sold the Marshalate and the Guard Command, we are not selling this - we are giving it in lease for 99 years. A long-term lease. At the same time, we retain the right to use that space and land, as well as to collect revenue and profit from the project - 22.5% over the next 99 years," Vucic said in an interview with TV Pink.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) in Pristina has announced the preliminary results of the second round of municipal elections in Kosovo and Metohija (KiM).
The Government of Serbia announced that it has adopted the Draft Budget for 2026, which envisions total revenues and income of 2,414.7 billion dinars, an increase of 2%, or 68.5 billion dinars, compared to the revenues projected in the original budget for this year.
He added that, under this project, Serbia is providing the land, while the American partner is contributing an investment of at least 650 million euros.
"It’s a huge investment for our country. A fantastic space where our people will be able to enjoy themselves. Are you enjoying the Marshalate now? Well, everyone will be able to enjoy this - both foreigners and our people. Our citizens will be able to enjoy it. When you see what it will look like, it will raise the value of everything in Belgrade. It will attract more tourists. Those 650 million euros they invest, along with their know-how, will immediately be worth over a billion. Which means that, in financial terms, for something we did not sell, we are immediately gaining more than 220 million dollars," the Serbian president explained.
He emphasized that he has always been guided by Serbian interests.
"Do you know what it means for us to have a Trump Tower? Do you know what that means for Belgrade’s image?" Vucic asked.
