Ratel Grants Mobile Operators Licenses for Providing Services Using the 5G Network
Following the public bidding procedure, Ratel – the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Postal Services – has granted individual licenses to the operators Telekom Srbija, Yettel, and A1 Srbija, thereby meeting the conditions for the commercial provision of services using 5G.
The licenses cover the use of radio frequency spectrum in the following bands: 694–790 MHz, 880–915/925–960 MHz, 1710–1785/1805–1880 MHz, 1920–1980/2110–2170 MHz, 2500–2690 MHz, and 3400–3800 MHz.
The licenses were granted to Telekom Srbija, Yettel, and A1 Srbija, which paid the first half of the fee for the use of the allocated radio frequency spectrum within the prescribed deadline, totaling 150,049,715 euros.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated that Serbia did not receive a positive decision from the United States regarding NIS and that the state has granted permission to shut down the refinery in Pancevo. He said that there are sufficient reserves of all oil derivatives until the end of January.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric met in Washington, during his visit to the USA, with Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, and one of the topics discussed was the preservation of the country’s energy security and the functioning of the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS).
Ratel’s Director, Dragan Pejović, ceremonially presented the licenses – in the presence of Council members and colleagues – to Vladimir Lucic, CEO of Telekom Srbija; Mike Michel, CEO of Yettel; and Judit Albers, CEO of A1 Srbija.
The issuance of individual licenses has, among other things, created the conditions for all three operators to begin commercially providing services using 5G technology, representing a major step toward modernizing mobile networks and enhancing service quality.
