President Aleksandar Vucic stated after a meeting with representatives of the Slovak national minority in Vojvodina, held together with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, that they discussed ways in which the Serbian state can help all communities where Slovaks live.
He also announced that Serbia will build the Slovak House in Novi Sad.
"We agreed, at the proposal of Peter Pellegrini – and I would say this is a major step both for Slovakia and for the Slovak community – on the construction of the Slovak House in Novi Sad. It will cost no less than six or seven million euros, and Serbia will take that upon itself," Vucic said after the meeting.
He emphasized that this will finally give Slovaks their own home in northern Serbia and said that he is very happy about it.
"Today we held talks with representatives of the Slovak community in Serbia, and of course representatives of institutions were also present – people who sometimes think similarly to us, and sometimes completely differently. We spoke with everyone. I regret that those in the opposition were not present, or although invited, had other priorities today, but we did speak with people who hold different views. I am glad that we resolved some of the issues," the President of Serbia added.
According to the latest data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, the average net salary in Serbia in September amounted to 109,147 dinars (around €930). The median net wage for September 2025 stood at 85,267 dinars, meaning that 50 percent of employees earned up to that amount.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated after a meeting with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini that they discussed all important aspects of cooperation between the two countries, as well as Serbia’s European path.
As he noted, he is proud of the Slovaks in Serbia, who have always shown respect for our country.
"They go through both good times and difficult or challenging moments together with us. I thank Slovak President Peter Pellegrini for the fact that Slovakia has always supported the Slovak community here, but has also consistently supported Serbia – both in its policies and through the economic assistance it provides to these communities," Vucic said.
Vucic and Pellegrini Meet with Representatives of Slovaks in Vojvodina
Vucic and Pellegrini were welcomed in front of the building by the local leadership, headed by the President of the Municipality, Viera Krstovski, together with the President of the Government of Vojvodina, Maja Gojkovic, as well as residents of Backi Petrovac carrying banners with the flags of Serbia and Slovakia.
Presidents Vucic and Pellegrini were greeted with bread and salt, carried by a young man in traditional Serbian folk attire and a young woman in traditional Slovak costume.
Pellegrini: Vucic Does a Great Deal for Slovaks Living in Serbia
Slovak President Peter Pellegrini described his visit to Serbia as historic and emphasized that President Aleksandar Vucic is doing a great deal to ensure that Slovaks in Vojvodina live well, adding that the construction of the Slovak House will fulfill their long-standing dream.
Pellegrini said that the historic nature of the joint meeting lies in Vucic’s announcement that he would fulfill the long-standing dream of Slovaks living in Serbia to have a Slovak House.
He added that he is grateful to Vucic and the Government of Serbia for announcing an investment of six to seven million euros in the project.
"This is a tremendous step that will be of great significance in the future and will contribute to a higher quality of life for the people who live here," Pellegrini said, adding that Slovaks contribute to Serbia’s development and, thanks to this support, are ready to preserve their tradition and culture.
