Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Serbia Expresses Support for the Territorial Integrity and Sovereignty of Somalia
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia announced that it expresses full support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia and encourages all efforts aimed at preserving peace, stability, and inclusive political dialogue.
"The Republic of Serbia consistently advocates respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all member states of the United Nations, as well as full respect for the UN Charter and the fundamental norms of public international law," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
The Ministry emphasized that, guided by the belief that all outstanding issues must be resolved exclusively through peaceful means, dialogue, and within internationally accepted frameworks, Serbia attaches particular importance to mutual support among states in safeguarding these principles.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, together with Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic and the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Milan Mojsilovic, laid the cornerstone for the construction of a new facility for the Ministry of Defence at the Banjica barracks in Belgrade.
The President of the Serbian List, Zlatan Elek, stated that, based on preliminary election results, the party won all 10 mandates reserved for Serbs in the elections for the Assembly in Pristina.
"In this context, Serbia recalls that the illegal unilateral secession of Kosovo and Metohija created a dangerous precedent that continues to produce destabilizing consequences for the global order, not only in Europe but also in Africa and other regions of the world," the statement said.
It further stressed that, based on these principled positions and the spirit of mutual respect, Serbia expresses full support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia and encourages all efforts directed toward maintaining peace, stability, and inclusive political dialogue.
Previously, Israel recognized Somaliland, a secessionist region of Somalia, as an "independent and sovereign state," becoming the first country to do so.
