Once the agreement is approved by OFAC and other regulators, Serbia will be able to buy an additional five percent stake in NIS from the company MOL, said Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic.

In an interview with today’s edition of Politika, she stated that this would increase Serbia’s ownership stake in NIS, enabling the country to block decisions that are not in its interest.

According to her, with a larger ownership percentage Serbia will also participate more significantly in profit distribution.

“Therefore, we will earn more and strengthen our position in that way. As for the company ADNOC from the United Arab Emirates, it also intends to purchase shares from MOL, but that will be an agreement between two private companies, which we support,” the Minister of Mining and Energy said.

Djedovic Handanovic also noted that NIS and the Serbian government have sent a letter to the U.S. administration supporting a request to extend the operating license and allow potential transactions between MOL and Gazprom Neft, and that a response from Washington is expected by the end of the week.
