Ministry of Health: Man (38) Dies After Tonsil Surgery at Hospital in Cacak
At the General Hospital in Cacak, during the night between February 11th and 12th , a 38-year-old man died in the postoperative period after surgery to remove his third tonsil, the Ministry of Health announced.
This happened just a few days after a four-year-old girl died following tonsil surgery at the same hospital.
"The patient, although not insured with us, independently registered for the surgical procedure due to breathing problems he had suffered from for years, aware of the risks of the intervention itself because of other accompanying illnesses he had", the Ministry of Health stated.
Temporary Measures Introduced at the General Hospital in Cacak
As stated, the ministry immediately sent its inspectors to Cacak upon receiving the information.
"By decision of the Minister of Health, management of the ENT department at the General Hospital in Cacak has been taken over by doctors from the University Clinical Center of Serbia and the University Clinical Center Kragujevac, until all circumstances that led to the two deaths in this department within a short period are established", the Ministry’s statement said.

In addition, the Minister of Health ordered the introduction of temporary measures at the General Hospital in Cacak, which include taking over the management of the healthcare institution in the coming period.
"The Ministry of Health once again extends its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased", the statement reads.
Girl Died in Belgrade
It should be recalled that four-year-old girl E.M. from the vicinity of Cacak, after undergoing tonsil surgery at the local hospital, was urgently transferred to Belgrade due to complications, where she later died.
Citizens, including the girl’s mother, protested in front of the hospital, and the acting director, Prim. Dr. Dejan Dabic, submitted his resignation.
The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Cacak announced on Tuesday that an autopsy of the girl’s body had been ordered and that the prosecutor’s office would decide on further steps in the proceedings afterward.
