At the General Hospital in Cacak, during the night between February 11th and 12th , a 38-year-old man died in the postoperative period after surgery to remove his third tonsil, the Ministry of Health announced.
This happened just a few days after a four-year-old girl died following tonsil surgery at the same hospital.
"The patient, although not insured with us, independently registered for the surgical procedure due to breathing problems he had suffered from for years, aware of the risks of the intervention itself because of other accompanying illnesses he had", the Ministry of Health stated.

As stated, the ministry immediately sent its inspectors to Cacak upon receiving the information.
"By decision of the Minister of Health, management of the ENT department at the General Hospital in Cacak has been taken over by doctors from the University Clinical Center of Serbia and the University Clinical Center Kragujevac, until all circumstances that led to the two deaths in this department within a short period are established", the Ministry’s statement said.
