Andrew Hale for Newsmax Balkans on the U.S. Supreme Court Decision: People Deserve Refunds for Unfair Tariffs
"I hope that people who were unfairly charged these tariffs will get their money back," said Andrew Hale of the Plymouth Institute for Free Enterprise, commenting on the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down a range of tariffs imposed by Donald Trump, which the Court found to be unlawful
"This administration had been warned by legal experts, even before introducing the measures, that they would likely be challenged in court and would most likely lose. I believe it was a rash decision, and that in the future such measures must remain within the bounds of the law," Hale told Newsmax Balkans.
He added that the ruling clearly demonstrates the role of the Supreme Court within the system of separation of powers and checks and balances in the United States.
The U.S. Supreme Court in Washington issued a decision overturning a broad range of global tariffs introduced by President Donald Trump, marking his most significant legal defeat since returning to the White House.
The Court ruled that Trump had exceeded his presidential authority when he imposed sweeping tariffs by invoking the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) of 1977.
