An explosion occurred on the evening of November 29 in the municipality of Zubin Potok in northern Kosovo and Metohija, damaging the Ibar-Lepenac canal, which supplies water to several cities as well as the Kosovo Energy Corporation for cooling thermal power plants.
Authorities in Pristina are accusing Serbia of the attack, while Reuters, in its report, states it found no immediate evidence of Belgrade's involvement in the incident. Serbian officials reject the accusations and, while condemning the attack on the canal, urge international authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation.
An explosive device was thrown near the municipality building in Zvecan just before midnight. There were no injuries, but material damage was reported, said Veton Eljsani, Deputy Commander of the Kosovo Police for the Northern Region.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric emphasized that during Donald Trump’s first presidential term, relations between Serbs and Albanians were at a significantly higher level, with a priority on achieving compromise through economic cooperation.
Veton Eljsani, Deputy Commander of the Kosovo Police, confirmed that searches are being conducted in the villages of Varage and Ugljare, where the majority of the population is Serbian, in the Zubin Potok municipality. This has caused concern among the Serbian population.
The Kosovo Police, in a statement, said that "based on the current findings, it has been determined that the explosion/detonation was a deliberate attack, a criminal terrorist act, carried out by the suspect(s)."
At an emergency meeting of the Kosovo Security Council held in the early morning hours, Prime Minister Albin Kurti presided, having previously met with the KFOR commander.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated that Belgrade has no connection to what happened in northern Kosovo and Metohija when the Ibar-Lepenac canal was damaged, and that Pristina is aware of this.

Foreign Minister Marko Djuric expressed that Serbia strongly condemns the attack on the Ibar-Lepenac canal and called on relevant international authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation to identify those responsible for the act.
"While Kurti's ethnonationalist regime hastened to point fingers at Serbia without evidence, we believe such premature accusations are a deliberate diversion, which potentially indicates the involvement of Albin Kurti's regime," Djuric emphasized in a post on platform X.
Serbia condemns in the strongest possible terms the recent attack on the Ibar-Lepenac canal. This deeply troubling act of sabotage jeopardizes the lives and livelihoods of countless individuals in the region. Ibar-Lepenac is a critical waterway essential for electricity…

The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, stressed that the destruction of part of the Ibar-Lepenac canal in the village of Varage near Zubin Potok is directly aimed against the peace that Belgrade has always advocated for and is "absolutely not in the interest of the Serbian people and Belgrade."
The Serbian List strongly condemned, as stated, the destruction of the Ibar-Lepenac canal and called for an immediate investigation by KFOR and EULEX into this case.
