KFOR confirmed: Pristina requested authorization to send security forces to northern Kosovo, we did not allow it
KFOR has confirmed that Pristina requested authorization for the Kosovo Security Forces (KSF) to be allowed to go to the north of Kosovo and Metohija, or for "potential" deployment in the "affected area" following an explosion that damaged the Ibar-Lepenac canal, but the request was denied.
"In accordance with the 2013 agreement signed between the institutions in Kosovo and NATO, the institutions in Kosovo requested authorization from the KFOR commander for the potential deployment of KSF units in the affected area in the north of Kosovo. The KFOR commander did not grant such authorization, based on his security assessment and actions that KFOR has already taken," the response stated to KoSSev's inquiry.
An explosion occurred on the evening of November 29 in the municipality of Zubin Potok in northern Kosovo and Metohija, damaging the Ibar-Lepenac canal, which supplies water to several cities as well as the Kosovo Energy Corporation for cooling thermal power plants.
A significant hybrid attack has been attempted on our country. In the initial wave, Belgrade and Serbia were accused of being behind the explosion near Zubin Potok, but we have no connection to these events, said Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
The response also reminded of the mission's statement on Saturday, where KFOR deployed units to secure the area in Zubin Potok, where the Ibar-Lepenac canal was damaged.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated in his address yesterday that nine minutes after Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti was informed about the explosion near Zubin Potok, an official request for KFOR to station Kosovo security forces in the north followed, but KFOR rejected it.
To recap, an explosion occurred in the village of Varage near Zubin Potok on Friday, damaging the Ibar-Lepenac canal and disrupting the water supply. Pristina characterized the attack as "terrorist" and accused Belgrade of being behind it.
