Opposition Files Request for the Dismissal of Ana Brnabic from the Position of Speaker of Parliament
Representatives of opposition parliamentary parties have filed a request for the dismissal of the Speaker of the Serbian Parliament, Ana Brnabic, due to "violations of the Constitution, laws, and the Rules of Procedure of the Serbian Parliament."
Radomir Lazovic, a member of the Green-Left Front, stated that the request was filed primarily due to the way the debate on the budget and a total of 68 items took place-without discussion or participation from opposition lawmakers.
"It is the Parliament's responsibility to adopt laws, amend laws, and approve the budget, and the adoption of laws and the budget must be preceded by a public debate. The public debate is conducted in principle and in detail, and every MP has the right to participate in the discussion," said Lazovic.
According to him, the behavior of the Speaker of the Parliament was inappropriate.
Ana Brnabic stated that the request for her dismissal was filed by 41 opposition lawmakers because there was no debate on the 2025 budget, and emphasized that the opposition had previously announced that there would be no sessions on the budget, as well as that they had created incidents the moment government officials entered the hall that day.
Brnabic reminded at a press conference that she had done her best to hold the session and that citizens could see this, both those who vote for the SNS and its coalition partners, as well as those who vote for the opposition.
"Everyone could see and be convinced who did their best to ensure a discussion on the budget law, and who did everything, and had even previously announced that the session would not take place and that they would block it," said Brnabic.
At the press conference in Parliament, representatives of the Green-Left Front, Ecological Uprising, the People's Movement of Serbia, the Movement of Free Citizens, and the Democratic Party spoke about the request for her dismissal.
They all concluded that they did not expect the Parliament to support such a request, but that the fight would continue outside of institutional frameworks.
