The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office (HPPO) in Belgrade has taken jurisdiction over the case against M. P. (37), the driver of a car who, during a traffic blockade on Roosevelt Street, struck and carried S. P. (20) on the roof of his vehicle for several meters.
The student fell onto the asphalt after which the driver fled the scene.
According to the HPPO’s statement, the suspect is being charged with the criminal offense of attempted aggravated murder.
He has been detained for up to 48 hours, during which time he will be interrogated by the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade.

Following the incident, at the order of the First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspect was detained for 48 hours.
He is facing charges for the criminal offenses of violent behavior under Article 344 and creating general danger under Article 278 of the Criminal Code, as confirmed by the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade to Tanjug.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Ivica Dacic, stated that Belgrade police located the vehicle involved in the incident within ten minutes. The car had hit and knocked over the 20-year-old female and fled the scene toward Bogoslovija.
Five minutes later, and 15 minutes after the event, police apprehended the driver of the Ford along with two other individuals in the car, one of whom is a minor.
Belgrade police acted professionally and in accordance with the law. Within 10 minuteas they located the vehicle that hit and knocked over the 20-year-old woman and fled the scene in the direction of Bogoslovija. In less than 10 minutes, they found the Ford Focus the suspect had abandoned on Ljuba Didic Street," Dacic said in a statement released by the Ministry of the Interior.
Five minutes later, and 15 minutes after the event, police apprehended the driver, M.P., along with two other passengers, one of whom is a minor.
"They were immediately taken into custody, and the driver M. P. was arrested and detained. He will be promptly handed over for further proceedings to the competent prosecutor, who classified the criminal offense as attempted aggravated murder. The suspect has a prior criminal record, having committed various offenses and been convicted seven times. The Ministry of the Interior once again calls on everyone to respect the Law on Public Assembly and the Law on Traffic Safety," stated the Minister of the Interior.
A memorial service was held at the Church of Saint Sava in Belgrade to mark the seventh anniversary of the murder of Oliver Ivanovic, leader of the Civic Initiative "Serbia, Democracy, Justice."
