Students are blocking the buildings of Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) in Takovska Street and Radio Television of Vojvodina in Novi Sad, where strong police force is present.
The students participating in the blockade gathered in front of the RTS building on Monday around 11 PM, stating that all employees would be allowed to leave but that no one would be permitted to enter until RTS is "liberated."
They announced that the blockade would continue until Tuesday at 9 PM in response to an RTS host referring to them as a "mob."
RTS issued a statement condemning the blockade, saying it is entirely contrary to previous student declarations advocating for the free operation of institutions.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) confirmed that police officers securing the RTS building would not intervene against those conducting the blockade unless there was a violent breach of state institutions or attacks on police officers.
MUP further reported that a member of the Gendarmerie was injured and taken to the Emergency Center due to an eye injury. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic visited the injured officer.
The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade has instructed the police to urgently identify individuals who attacked Gendarmerie officers in front of the RTS building on Monday, on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of violent behavior at a sports event or public gathering.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt has denied claims that Susan Wiles, Chief of Staff to U.S. President Donald Trump, prohibited Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic from attending an event at Mar-a-Lago.
