Minister Djuric on Serbia’s Anti-Russian Vote at the UN: Vote Changed to "Abstention"

However, he added that the vote was subsequently changed to "abstention," thereby "putting an end to the matter."

In an interview with the weekly NIN, Djuric emphasized that he had no difficulty accepting responsibility for the oversight and apologizing for it. He also stated that, for the time being, he would not address the individuals involved in the "witch hunt" against him or the background of that campaign, as "the public interest takes precedence over his public image."

On February 24, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution reaffirming support for Ukraine and its territorial integrity. Two versions of the resolution were put to a vote – one drafted by the United States and another prepared by Ukraine and its European allies.

During the vote on the first resolution, Serbia abstained but supported the second. Shortly afterward, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated that Serbia had made a mistake by voting for the resolution.
