He added that during a recent visit to the U.S., he had productive meetings with representatives of the State Department that will influence the development of the company.
Lucic said that relations between the U.S. and Serbia have significantly improved in recent years, attributing this to what he called “the spirit of the new Republican administration” as well as the policies of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
He emphasized that the U.S. is heavily investing in Serbian startups and particularly pointed out that Bank of America will finance part of the 5G project, beginning with an initial investment of $50 million. Lučić also said that during his stay in the U.S., he discussed issues Telekom faces in Kosovo and Metohija, where the Pristina administration is violating laws and not adhering to agreements regarding the third license.
He noted that the good relationship between the U.S. and Serbia was evident when Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s regime attempted to shut down Telekom in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija in August 2023.
"With the help of the U.S. administration, we managed to prevent that," Lucic added.
Lucic also highlighted that one of his meetings in the U.S. focused on cybersecurity, stating that Telekom Srbija has a well-developed security network.
"In the future, all small and large companies will need to think about cybersecurity. Telekom Srbija has a good solution; we have a team of operators working 24 hours a day. Unfortunately, crime has moved online, and many are using artificial intelligence (AI) for it," he said.
He also emphasized that since last year, Telekom Srbija has been offering scholarships to top Serbian students at the College of Europe in Bruges.
