First Planning Meeting for International Participation at EXPO 2027 Gathers Over 400 Delegates from 154 Countries

This two-day event, described as unprecedented in the history of the Western Balkans, demonstrated that preparations for the first international exhibition in the region are progressing according to plan. Serbia, through its hospitality and organization, has shown that it is capable of hosting major global events.

Dusan Borovcanin, Director of "EXPO2027", while touring the construction site of the EXPO complex together with delegations from participating countries, stated that the world is excited to come to Belgrade in 2027.

"The representatives of the countries who have spent the past few days in our capital clearly showed that EXPO 2027 has already become dear to them. They also expressed their appreciation for the theme of the exhibition, as it offers room for creative and authentic expression," he said.

Borovcanin emphasized that representatives from the 114 countries that have officially confirmed participation, as well as those currently in the preparation process, shared extremely positive impressions from the two-day event.

He noted that the delegates were particularly impressed by the progress of the EXPO 2027 complex construction, as typically, only early-stage works are presented at the first IPM.

Additionally, Borovcanin pointed out that the number of countries confirming their participation is expected to grow further, as some are still completing the necessary administrative procedures for formal confirmation.

As for future steps, Borovcanin announced that Serbia will be present at the General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in Paris this June. This will be followed by the adoption of an international agreement between Serbia and the Bureau, after which the contract-signing phase with participating countries will begin, marking continued progress toward the biggest event in Serbia’s modern history.

It was also noted that the Specialized Exhibition EXPO 2027 Belgrade will take place from May 15 to August 15, 2027, under the theme “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All”. The exhibition will run for 93 days and is expected to attract more than four million visitors from Serbia, the region, and around the world.
