The assistant director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija detained, sharp reactions from Serbian officials
The Basic Court in Pristina ordered the detention of up to 30 days for the assistant director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Igor Popovic, who was arrested on Friday at the Brnjak administrative crossing.
The Office for Kosovo and Metohija announced earlier that on the order of Aljbin Kurti, the Assistant Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Igor Popovic, charged with legal issues, who was attending the commemoration of the anniversary of the suffering of the Orahov region Serbs at the hands of the criminal KLA in Orahovac, was detained in the AP Kosovo and Metohija.
The Basic Court in Pristina has approved the request of the Special Prosecutor’s Office to issue domestic and international arrest warrants for 11 Serbs as part of the investigation related to the erection of barricades in northern Kosovo and Metohija in 2022.
The European Commission is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Brussels Agreement and the rule of law in Kosovo and Metohija. Therefore, it has an obligation to protect Telekom Srbija from discriminatory actions by Kurti's administration, said the company's CEO, Vladimir Lucic.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia and Minister of Internal Affairs, Ivica Dacic, stated that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued an arrest warrant for the Kosovo police officer who physically assaulted and injured a Serbian high school student.
Popovic was detained for making a statement after the commemoration - just because he rightfully called out people who had killed 47 Serbs and Roma people and kidnapped more than a hundred innocents during July 1998. At the same time, the Office stated, "this way, the arsonist Kurti wants to cause a new crisis here and send a message to the Serbs that there is neither peace nor justice for them".

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said the arrest of Popovic shows that Aljbin Kurti has completely lost his mind and wants to cause incidents and conflicts in the Western Balkans, as well as that Belgrade will react strongly.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric stated that Serbia demands the immediate release of Popovic from the Pristina casemate and warns the international community to be aware of the seriousness and danger of such actions by Pristina’s officials.
