CEC Does Not Certify Serbian List for Participation in October 12 Local Elections

With two votes in favor, two against, and seven abstentions, the Serbian List did not receive the support of CEC members for certification, Koha reported.

CEC members from the Self-Determination Movement, Sami Kurtesi and Aljban Krasnici, opposed the proposal to certify the Serbian List, presenting documents which, they claimed, showed that the Serbian List’s candidates for mayors or councilors hold positions in Serbia’s parallel structures in Kosovo.

The Serbian List announced that, although all legal requirements were met, the CEC did not certify its candidates for mayors and councilors in the local elections in Kosovo and Metohija, which it described as yet another example of political discrimination.

The statement noted that this decision was made despite the fact that the competent Office for Certification confirmed that all candidates of the Serbian List fully met the legal criteria.

It was further stressed that such conduct represents a serious blow to the rule of law and proof that the international community, even after more than two decades, has failed to establish a fair and democratic system, while its calls on Kurti to respect the law and the rights of the Serbian people are taken absolutely unseriously.
