Barry Donadio, a former U.S. Secret Service agent, said he observed no irregularities in the security procedures protecting the president Donald Tramp during the recent incident in Washington.

According to him, service members acted fully in line with their training.

"I did not see any discrepancies whatsoever in the security of the president during this incident. They did basically exactly what they were trained to do, and they did it very well," Donadio told Newsmax Balkans.

Speaking about security measures, the former Secret Service agent also addressed the placement of security checkpoints during the event.

"As far as the checkpoint goes, that checkpoint, it seems to be not in the main entrance but off to the side just for guests of the hotel," the former Secret Service agent said.

Donadio emphasized that during his service, he worked security at events in hotels such as the Hilton, where security procedures are carried out according to clearly established rules.

"The magnetometers are inside the bigger lobby, and people are checked in. It is an immense, big hotel, and there's hundreds of rooms there. So there could very well be guests there that have nothing to do with that event that do not have to go through any security clearance or zone. So it's not until they really try to get into that event that they're checked for security. But anything that's going to come close to the president or come close to that event is going to go through a checkpoint," the former agent explained.

He stressed that the checkpoint represents the key boundary between unsecured and secured space.

"The entrance point is the perimeter to an event, the outside world outside of that secure location is completely unsecure, and anybody could have anything. But once they get through that checkpoint, that means they're safe," our interlocutor added.

"A victory for the Secret Service"

According to him, agents reacted quickly and decisively, taking down the attacker and preventing him from continuing toward protected individuals.

"You can hear the shots fired, and right away you see agents spring into action. Right away you see one agent running from behind the stage. It was a win for the Secret Service, ultimately," Donadio emphasized.

Speaking about the moment the incident broke out, former agent Donadio said the response from security services came almost immediately after the first shots were fired.

"I'm reasonably certain those officers and agents at the checkpoint probably voiced on their radio, ‘Shots fired.’ And the people inside heard something, but they weren't sure what that was. But it certainly validated it when it went over the radio, ‘Shots fired.’ And right away you know it's time for the president to get out of there," the former U.S. Secret Service agent said.

Barry Donadio stressed that in such situations, the priority is not engaging with the attacker, but protecting those under their protection.

“They're not going to sit and try to fight what could potentially be a force, not just one, but they don't know at that time it could be a force of terrorists coming in. They're not going to try to fight it. They're going to try to get out of there and keep the president safe,” our interlocutor explained.

Former U.S. Secret Service agent Barry Donadio emphasized that service members are continuously trained for situations like this through regular and intensive exercises.

As he explained, agents undergo firearms training and instruction on various systems every month, as well as simulations of crisis scenarios, including evacuating the president from checkpoints and complex environments.

"The president is alive today because of the United States Secret Service," former agent Barry Donadio stressed.

He added that the service is made up of exceptionally trained and carefully selected professionals.

"The best equipment, the best trained people. It is very hard to get in the US Secret Service. It is very hard to stay in the Secret Service and stay qualified. So you're looking at the best the government has to protect the president," our interlocutor concluded.
