"Goal to meet all EU membership requirements by 2026": Vucic and Macut discuss Serbia’s European path with Brunner

The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Djuro Macut spoke with the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, about Serbia’s European path and various areas of cooperation.

President Aleksandar Vucic stated that during the meeting he emphasized that EU membership remains Serbia’s strategic commitment and one of its most important foreign policy priorities, and that Serbia’s goal is to meet all membership criteria by the end of 2026.
Vucic said that the discussion was open and substantive, and that they talked about Serbia’s European path, cooperation in internal affairs, migration, and strengthening security.
"For us, it is of key importance that the enlargement policy remains high on the agenda of European institutions and member states, with a clear, predictable, and credible process. I particularly emphasized that Serbia, through its responsible approach to migration, cooperation with EU FRONTEX and countries in the region, as well as alignment of visa policy, has shown that it shares European values, protects common security, and remains a reliable EU partner", Vucic wrote on the buducnostsrbijeav account.

Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Djuro Macut emphasized that he believes Europe is looking toward Serbia, just as Serbia is looking toward it, without conditions, bearing in mind that the country is fully committed to the European path and is diligently working to fulfill all recommendations and guidelines, according to a statement from the Serbian Government.

According to him, numerous steps related to reforms in all areas have been implemented, which is why Serbia has high expectations regarding the acceleration of pre-accession negotiations and the opening of chapters and clusters, while at the same time remaining open to all modalities proposed by the relevant European institutions.
Regarding the Transport Community, Prime Minister Macut reiterated Belgrade’s position that it is necessary to find a satisfactory solution and shorten waiting times at the borders of the Schengen area, the statement added.

The attacker, 31-year-old Thomas Allen from California, who was staying at the same Hilton hotel where the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was being held, was arrested after opening fire with multiple weapons. Among the reporters staying at the hotel was Newsmax Balkans journalist Ognjen Medic.
