According to a statement from the EXPO 2027 company, three name pairs have made it to the final round: Rastko and Milica, Sava and Nada, and Momcilo and Tamara. Citizens will decide in a "tight" finish which name pair the mascots—a boy and a girl in traditional Serbian attire, who have already become a recognizable symbol of the EXPO—will bear.
"Sava and Nada", inspired by the river that flows through Belgrade and by hope for a better future, symbolize the spirit of the city and the key to a brighter tomorrow. "Rastko and Milica" are names deeply rooted in our tradition and culture, symbolizing growth, progress, and innovation, as well as warmth, kindness, and harmony. "Momcilo", an old Serbian name derived from the word momce (boy), evokes playfulness and cheer, while Tamara, meaning palm fruit, represents strength and resilience," the statement reads.
It is emphasized that the mascots are not just symbols of the exhibition but that their names may become part of the world's collective memory.
"Let us remember Misha the bear, mascot of the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games, who is still remembered worldwide, just like the colorful bird Curro from Seville 1992, which became the trademark of that EXPO. Similarly, the names of the EXPO 2027 mascots will shape how millions of visitors remember Serbia—as a country that managed to leave a lasting impression on the global stage with its symbols," the company emphasized.
It was also added that every vote matters, and everyone who wishes to support their favorite can do so on the official website of EXPO 2027 Belgrade.
"Voting for the mascot names has already attracted tens of thousands of people and shown significant public interest in being part of the preparation process for an event that puts Serbia at the center of global attention," the statement concludes.
