General Nebojsa Pavkovic Has Passed Away

General Pavkovic was released from prison in Finland on September 28th , before completing his sentence, to receive medical treatment in Serbia.

According to unofficial reports, Pavkovic died at 12:10 p.m.

During the NATO bombing in 1999, General Nebojsa Pavkovic was the commander of the Third Army of the Yugoslav Army, which was deployed in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija.

The indictment against Pavkovic was unsealed in October 2003, and in 2005 he surrendered to the Hague Tribunal.

In 2009, the Hague Tribunal sentenced General Pavkovic to 22 years in prison based on charges of crimes against humanity and violations of the laws and customs of war during the conflict in Kosovo and Metohija.

In the same trial, former Deputy Prime Minister of Yugoslavia Nikola Sainovic and army and police generals Sreten Lukic and Vladimir Lazarevic were also convicted.

The initial sentences were reduced for all except Pavkovic. The verdict was confirmed in January 2014, and at the end of August that year it was announced that Pavkovic would serve his sentence in Finland.

Vucic: He Dedicated His Life to Serving His Country and Army

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, sent a telegram of condolences following Pavković’s death, emphasizing that he left a legacy as an officer who carried out his duties with a strong sense of responsibility, dedication, and loyalty to Serbia.

“With deep sorrow I received the news of the death of Colonel General Nebojsa Pavkovic. I extend my sincere and deepest condolences to his family, friends, and comrades, as well as to all who knew and respected him,” Vucic wrote in the telegram.

He stated that during his long service, Pavkovic left behind the image of an officer who performed his duty with a strong sense of responsibility, devotion, and belonging to Serbia — caring for the people he worked with and fulfilling the tasks entrusted to him.

“Generations of soldiers and officers will remember him for his work, discipline, and the belief that the uniform is worn with honor and that a man’s word is his bond. He dedicated his life to serving his country and his army, and his memory will be preserved by those who shared both difficult and proud days with him. In this time of sorrow, our thoughts are with his loved ones. May they find comfort in the memories, respect, and love of those who knew him. Eternal glory

and gratitude to him, and to his family — strength, patience, and peace in these painful moments,” reads President Vucic’s message of condolence.
