"My sincere wish as President of the Republic is for tomorrow to pass peacefully. With respect. With more silence than shouting. With more reflection than confrontation. With a clearer look inward than toward others. Blaming one another will lead us nowhere. Only through joint effort can we create something better," Vucic emphasized.
He underlined that it is of essential importance to define the past, primarily to understand what can be done better in the future.
"It is our duty, as those who lead this country. A year after that terrible day, I can say that many in our society made serious and grave mistakes – myself included. The shock of the following day caused many people to show unbridled anger, to slander, to break rules, to commit acts of violence against others and their property, to attempt to destroy the fabric of our society and the core values that unite us as a people," the Serbian President stated.
As he noted, just as some expressed anger, at times he too said things he regrets having said.
"To students, to demonstrators, and to other people with whom I disagreed. I apologize for that," Vucic stressed.
He added that he knows and understands that, in moments of grief, some people seek solace in gatherings – in the streets, squares, or elsewhere.
"Everyone marks it and mourns in the way they believe is best. As long as it is done peacefully and lawfully, without disturbing others, I support it," Vucic emphasized.
He also said that on November 1, he will go to church to pray to God and light a candle for those who lost their lives in the canopy collapse.
"I invite people to do the same, and I know that many of you will," he stated.
